Meet the Expert: Brian Donahue, Managing Partner, Canvus, Inc.

Canvus is a manufacturer of furniture made from wind turbine blades. 5,000-8,000 wind turbine blades are retired each year. The wind industry has struggled with recycling them due to their massive size, durability, and fiberglass material. Canvus created a solution for these blades by upcycling them at scale into furniture designed for communities, parks, and schools.

We developed products that not only serve essential function needed in our public spaces, but also bring a sense of excitement and uniqueness.

All our upcycled benches, planters, and picnic sets are fully assembled, maintenance-free, and built to last 25+ years. In solving a problem, we created a new opportunity for the renewable industry to give back to their communities. Our Request Program allows companies with a commitment to renewable energy to make a positive impact in public spaces by donating sustainable furniture to communities across the U.S.

Discover all of the AMAZING ART on Canvus’ website HERE –> https://www.gocanvus.com/

Highlighted Book for this episode
Story of the Orchestra : Listen While You Learn About the Instruments, the Music and the Composers Who Wrote the Music!
by Robert Levine (Author), Meredith Hamilton (Illustrator), Black Dog & Leventhal
Eye-catching illustrations and an accompanying 70-minute CD make this an exciting and educational introduction to the world of classical music-from composers and music history to the instruments of the orchestra-for elementary age children (and parents, too!).
Each step of the way, children can listen to actual musical examples of what they are learning about. Young readers will hear the sound of an actual violin as they study the instrument and enjoy the playful tune of a Mozart minuet as they read about the composer’s precocious exploits as a child.

Currently, Joe is the senior Data Imaging Developer at the Space Telescope Science Institute, Joe. Prior to joining STScI in March of 2017, I he was the Science Imager for NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. If you’ve ever seen a space image with X-ray data in it, you’ve probably seen Joe’s work. He has always been fascinated by the immensity and complexity of the universe and our search for meaning within it.

Having a background in both art and science has given Joe a unique skill set. He uses art and aesthetics to prepare astronomical data for the creation of press-quality imagery in support of STScI’s outreach activities. Check out some of Joe’s amazing images on his website: www.jdepasquale.com

Challenge
Listen to math Raps. Give them a try, then make one of your own!
Acceleration:
To speed from zero to more at any rate
That increase of speed means accelerate
Acceleration is how fast velocity ranges
Watch for the time and distance changes
Acute Triangles
Some triangles aren’t right, some are just ugly
Others are acute, with little angles so snuggly
Like in all triangles, acute angles come in threes
But every single one of them is less than 90 degrees

Angles:
Angles should not perplex
Two points meet at the vertex
The amount of turn between two lines
Try some, make some, you’ll be fine
